A Christian Education for Everyone

The Harvest Temple Scholarship Granting Organization (HTSGO) is a state-certified, nonprofit scholarship granting organization that provides students with funding to attend Harvest Temple Christian Academy (HTCA). The HTSGO is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) organization. Our mission is to help local Christian families afford an excellent Christian education.

The primary focus of the organization is granting scholarships through the tax-incentivized state Scholarship Granting Organization program. In this program, scholarship awarding is prioritized to low-income students. The Scholarship Granting Organization program was created in 2021 with the objective of providing a learning option for Christian families that they may not otherwise be able to afford. This program depends on the contributions of mostly individuals, who receive a tax credit for their contributions.

Ohio taxpayers can earn a dollar-for-dollar tax credit up to $750 while funding K5-12 scholarships for children with a financial need. This is made possible through the state’s Scholarship Granting Program introduced in 2021.

How the scholarship tax credit works

In January, you will receive a donation letter from us. You will use the donation letter to claim your dollar-for-dollar nonrefundable credit when you file your Ohio income tax return. Contact a tax professional to better understand the benefit of your donation to the SGO.

Any taxpayer donating directly or through a pass-through entity to the SGO is eligible for the tax credit. A pass-through entity is a S Corporation, Partnership, or a Limited Liability Company treated as a partnership for federal income tax purposes. Visit the IRS website for more information about business structures. There is no cap to donations to SGOs across the state. Any amount may be donated to the SGO, however, only $750 per individual or entity may be claimed as a tax credit each year. If you and your spouse file jointly, you may claim $1,500 on your joint state income tax return. If filing together and donating over $750, please include both your name and your spouse's name with the donation.

In addition to claiming a state tax credit for your contribution, you can claim a deduction on your federal income tax return. Your gift to the SGO is tax deductible. For more information, visit https://www.irs.gov/charities-non-profits/charitable-organizations/charitable-contribution-deductions.

By getting involved, you can make a meaningful contribution to the lives of children with a financial need.
